In the past decade, technology has made it possible for consumers to find their own entertainment in ever-expanding channels. Traditional entertainment industries—particularly in music and film—are struggling, while independent recording artists, producers and filmmakers are thriving. This may be a result of the changing definition of entertainment, a shift in consumer tastes and an explosion in the use of digital media.
Entertaiment can be anything that affords pleasure, diversion, or amusement: a crossword puzzle is an entertainment for some; a theater show is entertainment for many; and even a visit to the dentist can be an entertaining experience. Entertainment has come to be regarded as primarily amusing, although it can also have serious aspects, such as ceremony, celebration, religious festival, or satire.
