What is Entertaiment?

Entertaiment is a broad term, which may encompass activities ranging from an individual selecting entertainment from a wide array of pre-recorded products, to a couple enjoying a banquet or other arranged event, to performances intended for thousands or even a global audience. Many entertainments have a strong association with amusement, although some have serious purpose, such as a ceremony or religious festival, satire or other form of social commentary. Often, familiar forms of entertainment cross over into other media, such as music or film, or inspire retellings in a new medium such as an innovative video game. The famous Scheherazade story, for example, was the inspiration for a story told in professional storytelling traditions, an orchestral work by Rimsky-Korsakov or Ravel, a film directed by Pasolini and a video game.
